Job Duties
Works under general supervision, applying creativity and judgment to solve problems in the development and application of chemical products and engineering processes.
Performs research and experimentation under guidance from technical leaders and advisors.
Develops basic chemical products and processes through chemical and/or engineering analysis.
Conducts specialized tests and simulations, including designing and constructing modeling apparatus and data acquisition systems.
Demonstrates thorough knowledge of products, processes, and their applications.
Provides technical guidance to technicians and may be consulted by associates in area of expertise.
Utilizes project management skills to plan and execute project activities as directed by project leaders and management.
Resolves technical and operational questions with internal customers.
Assists in developing and preparing technical training materials and presentations for technology transfer.
May apply fluid mechanics theory to:
- Rheological characterization of fluids
- Flow modeling
- Solids transport
- Viscoelasticity
- Friction analysis
May use existing software to provide engineering solutions and offer field support for software products.
May apply geomechanics technologies for:
- Mini-frac analysis
- Formation sanding potential
- Wellbore stability assessment
- Pore pressure prediction
- Stress analysis
- Mechanical property determination
Demonstrates innovation through inventions, patents, or new designs/techniques to achieve project goals.
Incorporates HES (Health, Environment, Safety) awareness, regulations, best practices, and product/process reliability and quality in development activities.
May participate in professional societies.
Job tasks impact cost containment, efficiency, profitability, or operations indirectly; errors are measurable and containable.
Required skills typically gained through:
- Undergraduate degree in Engineering, Chemical Technology, or similar discipline plus 5 years of related experience, or 9 years of directly related experience.
